Report of annual store licenses issued, 1945- .

To operate a store in Alabama, an owner must obtain an annual license from the probate judge. The probate judge must file a monthly report of store licenses issued with the State Department of Revenue by the tenth day of each month (see Ala. Code, 40-12-310 through 40-12-313 [1975]). This series includes such information as name of business, name of owner, address, amount of fees collected, and the license number. The probate judge retains a copy of this report. This record began in 1945 and continues to the present. The information is also found in the Comptroller, Department of Finance series S-9-1, Reports of Probate Judges.
